About the Department

The Department of Spatial Design and Consumer Affairs is a major that aims to foster professionals who can contribute to the improvement of the quality of human life by systematically studying the interaction between humans and the surrounding environment. In the field of spatial design, we differentiate ourselves from other universities by combining various theories and practices to foster graduates who are competent in interior design, housing design, and spatial marketing, which are in great demand in society along, with the improvement of living standards. In the consumer field, we train consumer affairs specialists who provide consumer insights by collecting and processing various information on consumers, consumer trends, and consumer markets required by governments and companies.

Major Course Guide

Year 1 │ Explore Spatial Design-Consumer Science Careers

Explore 15 typical careers in spatial design, consumer affairs, and consumer & design, including scope of work, job skills, qualities and personality traits, required coursework and activities, job preparation, and typical employers.

Year 2 │ Design Communication

Learn how to effectively communicate their designs and ideas to others. Design an exhibition space using the Sketchup program and become proficient in 3D modeling and rendering techniques.

Year 3 │ Interior Design Projects

Apply theoretical knowledge of interior design to design residential, commercial and workplace interiors. Student will create a work of art through the entire process of planning, conceptualization, design, and presentation.

Year 3 │ Space Branding

Rapidly changing trends require a differentiated design strategy along with a systematic approach to branding that is appealing to consumers. This class aims to understand the concept of brand design, learn the process of developing effective space branding, and develop creative space design strategies.

Year 3 │ Global Consumer Trends

Identify global consumer trends and examine the economic, demographic, and cultural factors that influence them. Students will learn techniques for identifying trends using various literature and media sources and how to utilize trends in research.

Year 4 │ Healing Spaces and Spatial Marketing

This course examines how space affects human physical and mental health and plays a role in the healing process from a five-sensory and multidisciplinary perspective, discussing healthcare spaces, aging environments, spiritual spaces, and space marketing planning methods.

Every November, we hold a project exhibition to showcase the panels, reports, models, and prototypes created by each of our Spatial Design and Consumer Affairs classes.

Major Explorations

Every year in April and May, the entire department organizes field trips to spatial design and spatial marketing, companies' production and distribution facilities, and local markets.

Field Placements

Field placements can take place during vacation periods or during the semester. Depending on participants’ interests and skills, we will match them with design offices for spatial design and consumer studies for consumer affairs in companies, government, and private organizations.

Employment Agencies

Graduates introduce promising job fields, job duties, and the job hunting process, and give tips and tricks to younger students on how to prepare for a job.

Competitions

The department actively supports and guides students in entering national and international competitions. In 2021, 13 works were awarded in the National Competition for Spatial Design.

Catsmart (formerly Greenmarket)

This is a hands-on facility in the consumer and distribution fields to experience the entire process of green consumption through sales planning, promotion, sales, accounting, etc. and to train merchandise planning/distribution MDs.
